DR. CHARLES H. WOOD, JR. opened Old Dominion Animal Hospital in 1982. He
graduated from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, and
returned to Virginia in 1981. He is a Past-President and current Member of The Blue Ridge
Mountains Rotary Club where he received a certificate of appreciation for his
significant contribution to the eradication of Polio throughout the world.
He also became a Paul Harris Fellow for his support of friendly relations
between peoples of the world. Dr. Wood has received recognition from area
SPCAs, Caring Canine Companions - A Service Dog Organization, and was given
the Profiles in Compassion Award. He proudly supports area public schools
and participates in their Partnership in Education Programs. Dr. Wood's
family pets currently include an Australian Shepherd dog, three cats, and
fish. Dr. Wood and his wife, Virginia, have two children and live on a
mountain in Nelson County.
DR. ALLISON KRAMER joined Old Dominion Animal Hospital in June 2007 after graduating
from veterinary school at Virginia Tech. She attended James Madison University for her undergraduate
degree in biology, where she met her husband, Jeff.
Dr. Kramer and her husband live with their 2 dogs and 1 kitten, all which were rescued. Jenny is a
crazy coonhound, Stella is a little terrier mutt and Luca is a very precious male kitten.
She enjoys building relationships with clients and their pets, and is very excited to be a part of this
profession and Old Dominion Animal Hospital.
Outside of work, Dr. Kramer enjoys running, biking, crafting, shopping and playing with her dogs and
kitten.
DR. JENNIFER MAGILL joined Old Dominion Animal Hospital in March 2006 after practicing in northern
Virginia for 6 years. She attended Florida State University for her undergraduate work in biology and the
University of Missouri-Columbia for her veterinary medicine curriculum. A central Virginia native, Dr. Magill
was very happy to return to the area with her family.
Dr. Magill and her husband share seven acres with: 2 dogs, Whiskey a 12 year old Lab and Kayly, a 6 year old
Border collie mix along with their 3 cats. In practice, she has a special interest in geriatric medicine.
She believes that "Senior" patients often require more intensive care to maintain an optimum quality of life,
and Dr. Magill enjoys improving these "Golden Years" whenever she can.
Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys gardening, horseback riding, downhill skiing, tennis and of course,
long walks with her dogs.
DR. NELLIE BIERLY practices both conventional and alternative veterinary medicine
at Old Dominion Animal Hospital. She graduated from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989.
From 1989-1997 she practiced in a mixed animal practice in Lexington, Virginia. She became certified in veterinary
acupuncture in 1995 and became certified in veterinary chiropractic in 1999. She now travels throughout south and north
West Virginia to provide acupuncture and chiropractic treatment for pets. She currently practices at Old Dominion
Animal Hospital every Wednesday. The focus of her practice is musculoskeletal issues including lameness, arthritis,
back and neck pain, paralysis and weakness. She has also developed a special interest in the athlete and performance
dogs and their injuries resulting from agility, fly ball and obedience work.
