Pet Loss Information
It is normal and necessary to grieve after the loss of a beloved pet. Your intense sorrow after your pet has passed is not that different than what you would feel after the loss of any loved one. You and your pet have shared a special bond and you need to know it is okay to grieve. It is okay to seek emotional support from friends, family, and pet loss groups. You may find it important to talk about your pet with others, and it is important to remember all the good times you shared.
If your pet has reached his golden years or has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, you may now be faced with the inevitable loss of your pet. We're here to help you make your pet's final days peaceful and dignified. You can guide you pet's end of life by deciding to end his suffering with euthanasia. You do not have to allow your pet to continue to feel discomfort or stress. Euthanasia provides a painless and peaceful alternative, with a small injection your pet will ease into a humane death. We know this is difficult to think about. It is difficult to do, but otherwise your pet might continue to suffer. At Old Dominion Animal Hospital we do not charge our regular clients for the euthanasia of their beloved pets. This is a difficult time, and after providing your pet with a lifetime of care, we simply want to make their death as peaceful as possible. The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA will charge a fee at this time if you decide to have your pet cremated.
