Digital Radiography

Old Dominion Animal Hospital is pleased and proud to be equipped with the latest and highest quality digital x-ray equipment available. This advanced system lets us offer improved patient care through better image quality. Digital radiography refers to taking images without using film. Conventional radiographic cassettes and film are replaced by a digital imaging sensor. We can take an imagine and it immediately appears on a computer screen. The processing step of developing radiographs is eliminated. This is a great help to us in veterinary medicine because our staff can see right away, without letting the animal move, if more images are Digital X-raynecessary or if the pet needs to be repositioned. The sensors in digital radiography are very sensitive and can be adjusted on the computer screen, so actually there are fewer retakes. Fewer
retakes means less radiation exposure for our
staff and less radiation exposure for your pet.

Our hospital uses what is called Direct Digital Radiography (DR) and has Flat Panel Detectors affixed to the x-ray table. This technology is primarily used on humans because it performs very well. These systems are more expensive initially, but their advantages are significant. There is no processing time and we can have your pet's images immediately, there are no film cassettes or developing processors to hassle with, and most importantly our new system produces excellent image quality.
